Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Here at Bee Waxed we provide Safe, Professional Laser Treatments.

Here are some FAQ about laser hair removal at Bee Waxed. Learn how to prepare, what to expect, aftercare advice, treatment frequency and whether laser is suitable for you.

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is an advanced treatment that uses concentrated light energy to target the pigment in the hair follicle. The energy heats the follicle and reduces its ability to produce new hair.

At Bee Waxed we use the Motus AY, an advanced Alexandrite laser system that gradually delivers energy to the hair follicle using Moveo technology. This makes treatments more comfortable while still being highly effective for long-term hair reduction.

How should I prepare for my laser treatment?

To prepare for your treatment

  • Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment

  • Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds for at least 4-6 weeks before treatment

  • Do not wax, pluck or epilate between sessions

  • Avoid fake tan on the treatment area

  • Ensure skin is clean and free from lotions, oils or deodorant

A consultation and patch test is required at least 5 days before your first session.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Laser hair removal is often associated with discomfort, but our Motus AY system is designed to be pain free on all skin types. It uses advanced Moveo technology, delivering gradual energy with continuous cooling to gently heat the hair follicle rather than targeting it with sharp pulses. This makes treatments far more comfortable than traditional diode lasers, you can carry on your day as normal with no downtime required.

How many sessions will I need?

Hair grows in cycles, so multiple sessions are needed to treat each hair effectively.

Most clients require 6–10 sessions, spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart depending on the treatment area and hair growth cycle.

Some clients may require occasional maintenance sessions to maintain long-term results.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction, meaning many hairs are permanently reduced or stop growing.

However, hormones and natural hair cycles can cause some regrowth over time. When hair does return, it is usually finer, lighter and less noticeable.

Maintenance treatments may be recommended to keep the area smooth.

Can I have laser during my period?

Yes, you can still have laser hair removal while you are on your period. Your menstrual cycle does not affect how the Motus AY laser works, so the treatment can still be carried out safely.

If you are having intimate laser treatments (such as bikini, Brazilian or Hollywood), we simply ask that you:

  • Wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup

  • Inform your therapist before the treatment begins.

What should I avoid after laser?

For 24–48 hours after treatment:

  • Avoid heat (hot baths, saunas, steam rooms)

  • Avoid intense exercise

  • Avoid sun exposure

  • Do not apply fragranced products

  • No fake tan

You may experience mild redness or warmth, similar to a slight sunburn — this usually settles within a few hours.

Is laser suitable for all skin types?

The Motus AY is designed to treat all skin tones safely and effectively.

During your consultation we assess your skin type, hair colour and medical history to ensure the treatment is safe and suitable for you.

Laser works best on darker hair, as the laser targets pigment within the hair follicle.

Can I have laser hair removal before going on holiday?

Yes, but we recommend having your laser treatment at least 2 weeks before sun exposure or holidays in strong sunlight.

Laser treatment can make the skin more sensitive to UV exposure, so it is important to avoid sun exposure immediately after treatment.

When can I resume laser hair removal after a holiday?

You can continue your laser hair removal once your skin has returned to its natural, untanned colour.

We generally recommend waiting 4–6 weeks after sun exposure, as laser cannot be performed on skin with an active tan. Treating tanned skin increases the risk of burns and pigmentation changes.

Every client’s skin fades at a different rate, so if you’re unsure, we’ll assess your skin and advise you on the safest time to restart your treatments.

Can I have laser if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

Laser hair removal is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding as a precaution. While there is no strong evidence that the treatment is harmful, we advise waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding before starting or continuing treatment.

During this time, the body goes through significant hormonal changes, which can affect the hair growth cycle.

Hormones can cause hair to grow faster, thicker, or in new areas, and growth patterns may be less predictable. Because laser hair removal works by targeting hairs during specific growth phases, these hormonal changes can make results less consistent and treatments less effective.

For the best and most predictable results, it is usually recommended to begin or continue laser hair removal once hormone levels have stabilised after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Can I shave between appointments?

Yes! Shaving is the only recommended method of hair removal between sessions.

Do not wax, pluck, thread, or use hair removal creams, as these remove the follicle the laser needs to target.

When will I see the results from laser hair removal?

Some hairs will begin to shed within 1–3 weeks after treatment.

With each session, you should notice:

  • Slower hair growth

  • Finer and lighter hair

  • Reduced hair density

Results improve gradually throughout the course of treatments.

Are there any medical conditions that prevent laser hair removal?

Most people can safely have laser hair removal, but certain medical conditions, medications, or skin concerns may mean treatment is not suitable or may need to be postponed.

Laser hair removal using the Motus AY may not be recommended if you:

  • Are taking photosensitising medications that make your skin more sensitive to light

  • Have active skin infections, open wounds, or irritation in the treatment area

  • Have certain skin conditions that affect healing or pigmentation

  • Have recently used medicated acne treatments such as isotretinoin (Roaccutane)

  • Have a history of light-triggered conditions, such as some forms of lupus or epilepsy

In some cases, treatment may simply need to be delayed until the skin has healed or medication has finished.

This is why a full consultation and patch test are carried out before starting treatment. During this appointment, we will review your medical history and medications to ensure laser hair removal is safe and appropriate for you.

What happens at my first appointment?

  • Your journey starts with a thorough consultation and patch test. We assess your suitability, explain the process, and answer all your questions.

During treatment:

  • The area will be cleansed.

  • You’ll wear protective eyewear.

  • The laser handpiece is applied to the skin in short pulses.

  • Treatment time varies from 10–45 minutes depending on the area.

Afterwards, soothing products are applied and full aftercare advice is provided.

Our goal is smooth, long-term results delivered in a calm, professional, and welcoming environment.

What should i do after my treatment to protect my skin?

Following your treatment with the Motus AY, it’s important to care of your skin properly to achieve the best results and avoid irritation.

Immediately After Your Treatment

It is normal to experience:

  • Mild redness

  • Slight warmth in the treated area

  • Sensitivity similar to mild sunburn

These reactions usually settle within a few hours.

You may apply:

  • Aloe vera gel

  • A soothing, fragrance-free moisturiser

  • A cool compress if the area feels warm

For 24–48 Hours After Treatment Avoid:

  • Hot baths or showers

  • Saunas and steam rooms

  • Swimming pools

  • Intense exercise or sweating

  • Tight clothing on treated areas

  • Perfumed products or deodorant on treated skin

These can irritate the skin while it is sensitive.

Sun Exposure

Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks after treatment.

If the treated area is exposed to sunlight, apply SPF 30 or higher daily. Sun exposure can increase the risk of pigmentation changes.

Hair Shedding

Around 1–3 weeks after your session, you may notice hairs appearing to grow before they shed. This is completely normal, the hair is being pushed out of the follicle.

You can help this process by:

  • Gently exfoliating the area 2–3 times per week after the first few days

  • Continuing to shave if necessary

Between Treatments

To ensure the laser works effectively:

  • Only shave between appointments

  • Do not use hair removal creams

  • Avoid waxing or plucking

Your sessions will be scheduled according to your hair growth cycle and area to achieve the best results.

I feel nervous about intimate laser hair removal?

At Bee Waxed, intimate hair removal is our speciality. With nearly 18 years of experience, this is what we do every single day, so there is absolutely no need to feel shy, nervous or embarrassed.

We didn’t simply buy a laser and start offering treatments. Our salon has been established for many years and built a strong reputation for professional intimate waxing. In 2022 we introduced laser hair removal to further specialise in intimate hair removal and offer our clients another long-term solution.

We use the advanced Motus AY, which uses Moveo technology. This allows the handpiece to glide smoothly across the skin while gradually delivering energy to the hair follicle, making treatments much more comfortable than traditional laser systems and ideal for sensitive areas such as the bikini line or Hollywood.

Benefits for Intimate Areas

Laser hair removal can help with:

  • Ingrown hairs

  • Shaving rash and irritation

  • Dark shadowing caused by frequent shaving

  • Thick or coarse hair growth

  • Skin sensitivity from regular waxing or shaving

Many clients choose intimate laser hair removal for long-term smoothness, fewer ingrown hairs and greater confidence.

Is it awkward?

Not at all. Intimate treatments are carried out professionally and discreetly by highly trained therapists who specialise in this area. Your comfort, privacy and dignity are always our priority, and we aim to make you feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible throughout your treatment.
