Intimate Waxing FAQs

Discover everything you need to know about intimate waxing at Bee Waxed. From preparation and aftercare to waxing during pregnancy or your period, our expert team ensures a comfortable, professional, and welcoming experience.

How should I prepare for a wax?

To get the best results, preparation is key.

  • Hair length: Ensure your hair is long enough about 5mm (the length of a grain of rice), usually around 3 weeks of growth. Too long? No problem, we can trim it. Too short? The wax won’t grip properly.

  • Exfoliate & moisturise: In the days leading up to your appointment, gently exfoliate using a scrub and moisturise to keep the skin healthy.

  • Skip lotions on the day: Avoid oils, serums or moisturisers on the day of your wax.

  • Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable cotton clothing to protect freshly waxed skin.

  • Sun exposure: Avoid sunbeds or sunbathing for at least 48 hours before your wax, as this can make the skin sensitive or cause irritation.

  • Hydration & caffeine: Being well hydrated improves comfort during your wax. Try to limit caffeine on the day.

Age Requirements

  • Intimate waxing: 18+

  • Teen waxing (legs, underarms, basic bikini): 10–16 years, with parental consent. A parent or guardian must be present in the treatment room.

Waxing at a younger age is becoming more popular. It’s gentler and longer-lasting than shaving, helping young clients maintain smooth, healthy skin.

Does waxing hurt?

Waxing removes hair from the root, so brief discomfort is normal but technique and experience make all the difference.

At Bee Waxed, our therapists are trained to the highest standard. We use advanced methods including correct skin tension, precise wax application, and efficient removal. Combined with premium Perron Rigot wax, this keeps discomfort to a minimum.

The good news? The more regularly you wax, the easier it becomes, hair grows back finer, softer and more manageable.

Factors affecting sensitivity include:

  • Hormonal changes or your cycle

  • Stress or sleep quality

  • Hydration

  • Illness or medication

Waxing before a holiday

If you’re going on holiday, book your wax at least 48 hours before swimming, sun exposure or heat. This allows your skin to calm, follicles to close, and reduces sensitivity.

For first-time waxers, we recommend 2–3 sessions before your holiday. Hair grows in different cycles, so one wax may not remove every hair, particularly secondary growth. Scheduling multiple sessions helps synchronise hair growth, giving you longer-lasting smooth results.

Is waxing suitable for all skin types?

Yes! Waxing is suitable for most skin types. If you have sensitive skin or take medications that affect your skin, please let us know beforehand so we can adjust your treatment.

How do I look after my skin after waxing?

  • Avoid exercise, tight clothing, heat or fragranced products for 24–48 hours.

  • Exfoliate 2–3 times per week and moisturise daily to prevent ingrown hairs. We recommend Ruff Stuff Scrub and Oil, available in-salon.

  • Each skin type reacts differently, once your skin returns to normal, you can resume your usual routine.

Fake Tan - Before or After waxing?

We recommend tanning 24–48 hours after your wax. Waxing removes dead skin cells and can lift fresh tan, leaving it patchy.

Are there any medical conditions that prevent waxing?

Waxing may not be suitable if you:

  • Take Roaccutane (Isotretinoin)

  • Have active skin infections (cold sores, fungal infections, shingles)

  • Have open cuts or wounds

  • Have severe sunburn or recent chemical peels

  • Are experiencing eczema or psoriasis flare-ups in the area

  • Have very fragile skin due to medication or medical conditions

  • Have had recent surgery in the area

  • Have uncontrolled diabetes or circulation issues affecting healing

Any concerns can be discussed during your consultation and flagged before your appointment.

Should I stop active skincare before my treatment?

Yes if you use strong exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs, retinol), stop 7 days before waxing to reduce the risk of skin lifting. You can restart 48 hours after treatment, once the skin has returned to normal.

If you are using Roaccutane, waxing is not suitable until 6–12 months after finishing your course.

How long between appointments?

For intimate waxing, we recommend appointments every 4–6 weeks. Regular waxing helps synchronise hair growth, reduces ingrown hairs and makes appointments quicker and more comfortable. We’ll always assess your hair and skin to guide the best timing for your body.

Can I wax during my period?

Yes! You can be waxed while on your period. You’ll need to wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup.

You may feel slightly more sensitive, which is normal. The least sensitive time is mid-cycle.

How long will the results last?

Results usually last 2–4 weeks, depending on hair growth and regularity of waxing. Consistent appointments give the best results and keep skin smooth for longer.

Can I wax if I'm pregnant?

Yes! Waxing is safe during pregnancy.

We adapt techniques and use pregnancy friendly products to ensure you and your baby are safe. You may notice increased sensitivity but as specialists in intimate waxing, we take care to make your experience gentle and comfortable.

Can I bring someone to my appointment?

For safety, comfort and insurance purposes, we do not allow guests or children in the treatment room. The only exception is if you require a carer please contact us in advance.

I’m nervous about my first intimate wax — Is that normal?
